The Penisula Manila is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and is doing something different with their annual Independence Day promotion. Chef Myrna Segismundo has come up with 12 dishes to be served ala carte at the Lobby. In my opinion, the Peninsula’s lobby is the grandest one in the Philippines. These dishes will be available from June 9-19, 2016 only.
Starters include the Ensaladang Ukoy, shrimp fritters with palm hearts, jicama, pomelo with a honeyed patis (fish sauce) dressing. The fritter adds a different texture and a burst of umami to contrast the fresh and sweet taste of the accompanying salad. Other starters include Kinilaw, Adobo foie gras and truffle pate and Kesong puti and Longganisa de recado.
Batchoy and Pao. The circular bread looks innocuous enough but it hides some meaty surprise inside. The batchoy broth is light but has a good amount of toppings. Perfect comfort food for the rainy weather we are having right now.
Main courses include this superb Sea Bass with Coco Crab. Pan fried sea bass with coconut and crab fat sauce served with crab rice. The best part of this dish is the sauce, I suggest asking for an extra serving so you can douse it all over your rice.
Meatier appetites will gravitate towards the Roast Prime Rib Tagalog, served with caramelized onion, soya-calamansi au jus and Dinorado Rice. Other meat options are the Tapa rice bowl, Pastel de Pollo and Boneless Lechon.
You can pair your dishes with some unique local craft beers like this Tarsier wheat beer by the Crazy Carabao Brewing Company.
Available desserts are Queso de Bola cheesecake and Marquesa de Chocolate.
