Fowlbread in Bonifacio High Street is a small stall/restaurant that specializes in chicken sandwiches. At first glance you might be hesitant because of the open concept especially in this heat but around the corner is a door that leads to an airconditioned area.
The Chicken Sandwich (P235/ala carte, P285/with salted fries, P290/ with garlic fries). Spice level can also be customized with your choice of safe, spicy or chemical. Irene got her’s in safe while I went for the spicy.
There’s a piece of well fried chicken, mayo, assorted pickles and a big piece of chicken skin. I felt the chicken skin a bit unwieldy because of how it sticks out the side of the bun. I liked the crunch and the addition of the pickles which balances out the sandwich. Spice level was just right, there’s a kick but not to the point of being unedible for mebut Irene said her safe spice level was bland. For the sides, I can’t recommend the garlic fries enough, they are top notch.
Overall, I liked the sandwich but it’s not something to die for. Lori Baltazar of Dessert Comes First described it best “It’s a grown up McChicken”.
Garlic Egg Noodles (P170, +P150/prawn). This plate of noodles looked simple enough when it arrived but once we got a taste we were blown away. This was easily the best thing on Fowlbread’s limited menu. I’d skip the other side dish, potstickers.
I had the Strawberry Hiubiscus Freeze (P180). The mix tasted really weird for me but made do because they ran out of Coke Zero.
If you are craving for a chicken sandwich then you should head to Fowl Bread but be sure to order the garlic fries and garlic noodles also.
