Frankies New York Buffalo Wings Revisited

November 25, 2013 by Richard

I’ve visited Frankies New York Buffalo Wings at City Golf before and enjoyed their new take on the classic especially the Oriental Special. Since that time, they have upgraded their kitchen as well as introduced some new flavors for their buffalo wings. A few of my foodie friends were invited to check out the new stuff one Saturday morning a few weeks ago. Parking is always a breeze in the daytime, nighttime is a different story with the numerous bars around so be sure to come early.

One bite of the wings and I knew they solved my previous complaint of a bit too much batter on the chicken.  The prices have increased a bit to P320/dozen and P173/half. I also noticed they still have the foosball table at the corner so if you are feeling competitive, you might challenge friends to a game or two.

The first basket of wings was the surprisingly stellar Caribbean Jerk. This one had the perfect sweet and spicy the balanced each other out. The sauce coats the chicken skin perfectly that one can’t help but devour it hole leaving just a few pieces of bone in its wake. This is my new favorite after they phased out  the Oriental special (boo hoo).

Frankie’s Classic Buffalo, tangy and spicy, the crispiness of the chicken wings is really evident in this one. You can choose mild, medium or spicy for those whole love the classic.

Hickory BBQ Wings. I thought I would have liked this one when I heard they were serving this but it was too sweet for me. The Caribbean Jack being served first also must have factored into that too.

Bacon and Cheddar. Who would have thought you could add that to wings. It’s a bit messier than normal to eat but boy was it good. Oh so gooey with generous amounts of bacon bits to satisfy all the addicts.

I also enjoyed Frankies version of the Garlic Parmesan. This one has a more pronounced Parmesan taste yet did not have the drippy oiliness from others I’ve had in other wing joints.

Hungarian Sausage and Pesto Pasta (P180). Slices of spicy Hungarian sausage adorn this pesto based pasta that is a great alternative or a side order to share.

For dessert, they’ve added new variants to their New York Cheesecake (P120) by way of the Salted Caramel (P140) and Oreo Cheesecake (P140). The salted caramel is just a drizzling of the sauce on top of their regular New York cheesecake while the Oreo has cookies mixed in as well as on the top and bottom. OF the three, the one I enjoyed most was the salted caramel, sweet and creamy with each bite.

Head on over to City Golf for a round of wings and beer with the barkada or maybe join the throng of medical students enjoyed a quick lunch. Get the boneless chicken wings with rice for a quick fix of a dozen and slowly chat and drink away. Be sure to get them with my favorite, the Caribbean Jerk.
