I have never been to Krazy Garlik until that rainy Thursday evening when I received an invite to try out they dishes. I’m not really a garlic lover, but I wanted to keep my mind and taste buds open.
Krazy Garlik’s interior is mostly red and blacks but watch out for the whimsical touches highlighted by the large Alice in Garlic Land mural. This theme is extended through the menu as well as the comfort rooms.
Amazing Krazy Garlik Salad (P475/sharing) started what would turn out to be a deluge of dishes. This salad is a nice crispy starter and it really tasted quite familiar to me. The dressing reminded me of the Asian Chicken Salad from CPK.
Spinach and Cream Cheese (P225). Crispy wonton filled with spinach and cream cheese spread. So far two dishes with nary a garlic sighting. I found our that only around 60% of their dishes actually contain garlic, the rest has other spices to give them lots of flavor. This is a safe dish to order for most people.
Garlic and Anchovy Affection (P195). A bruschetta topped with anchovy and roasted garlic. I like anchovies and this one is no different, the roasted garlic were very soft and had a nice flavor. Other people on our table even scooped out the soft garlic in the middle to add more to their bruschettas.
Baba Ghanoush (P255). Roasted eggplants are main ingredient of this appetizer, topped with cumin and garlic chips. This one is a familiar sounding dish I’ve heard mention so many times in the past but this is the first time I’ve tried it. I scooped some and spread it onto the flat bread and took a bite. It tasted smooth yet smoky but the cumin might scare off some people.
Garlik Snowflake Pizza (P495). A creamy thin crust pizza topped with shrimps, pineapple and garlic chips. Interesting combination of ingredients that seemingly work together including the pineapple, which I’ve only seen in Hawaii pizza flavors.
We were served two pastas, Spaghetti Maramonte (P450) and Fettucine Oriente (P450). Among the two, I like the oriente better with its seemed like a mix of east and west. I think this is the first time I’ve seen Chinese greens in a pasta dish. The seafood cream sauce it just right, not overly creamy that would make you get tired of it easily.
Garliky Crispy Pata (P695). This is one of the best crispy pata’s I’ve ever had. The skin outside is crispy and had lots of added flavor due to the abundant garlic bits, the meat was tender and flavorful. I think I had a little too much of this, my taste buds affirm the dishes place as one of their most popular.
Ox Tail and Chorizo Stew (P650). The dish does not look that photogenic as most stews are but it has flavor in spades. The tomatoes, garlic and chorizo give the sauce a lot of flavor that had me wishing for plain rice.
Grilled Tuna Belly (P395). This dish came towards the tail end of our dinner, and I had not given it much attention. Good thing I wanted to try just a tidbit of it or else I would have missed out some yummy tuna. I’ve had my fill of tuna belly while I was living in Davao. This one is really good, the garlic flavor seeping in the fish added a nice taste that worked well.
Crema Catalana (P195). A twist on the classic Spanish creme brulee with the addition of candied garlic on top.I was not a fan of the candied garlic, it tasted weird to me. The flan was not as creamy as I expected to be, which was a disappointment.
Apple Tart A la Mode (P225). I enjoyed this a lot, the filo pastry was crispy while the green apples in the middle were not sweet. The tart was warm so it went with the ice cream well. I may be a little biased because of the ice cream.
Krazy Garlik has something for everyone with its array of dishes from different cuisine. Garlic lovers would really enjoy the new twist they put to familiar dishes. Non garlic lovers fret no since they also got dishes for you.
