Gelatissimo Cafe

September 5, 2010 by Richard

Is gelato just a fancy Italian name for ice cream. I found out it is not so, gelato is similar but very different from ice cream.

(Info from Wikipedia)

  • Gelato has lower fat content around 6% compared to ice creams around 14%
  • Gelato is not frozen
  • Gelato last for only a few days even at the optimum temperature
  • Gelato has less air at around 25% to 30% compared to around 50% for ice cream

Gelatissimo had more than 30 flavors available that day. I had a hard time choosing from them, trying some of the flavors from their whimsically colored tasting spoons. I finally settled on Rockmelon and Panna Cotta, a sorbet and a creamy gelato. I like to try uncommon flavors in my ice creams and gelatos.

Although they might not seem like a good match, the refreshing taste of the rock melon tempered the creamy sweetness of the panna cotta.I loved how each spoonful of the gelato is bursting with flavor.

Lauren was very very happy with her choice of gelato, American Chocolate. I guess their chocolate flavor is more like the milk chocolate bars than the bitter chocolate of other ice cream brands she tried before.

I wish they had a branch in Ortigas or Greenhills since I don’t usually go to Greenbelt.
