Genki Sushi recently opened their 4th store in SM Aura, bringing their innovative kaiten sushi experience to the mall diners. To celebrate the opening they’ve introduced a number of items to the menu. They added some items for people averse to sushi so families can still eat together like fried dishes plus a few mixed sushi plates and desserts.
Deep Fried Salmon Skin. Little tidbit of batter coated salmon skin, drizzled with a little lemon, will keep you munching and munching as you wait for your other orders to arrive. We were so disappointed last time we visited when this was not available.
Coconut Shrimp. Deep fried butterfly shrimps coated in panko then rolled in coconut flakes. Lot of nice crispiness with a nutty sweet flavor from the coconut flakes. Kids who don’t like sushi will like this one.
Kushiage. 5 different kinds of fried skewers, a mix of seafood and meat. Good shareable appetizer.
Genki Sushi Trios are new combinations of their old offerings, one of each type in a single plate. Perfect for people who like to try different versions of a particular seafood (crab, shrimp, salmon). Each plate has a plain seafood, seared black pepper and seared pollock roe topping.
Aside from the new dishes, I also tried some old items I’ve never had before.
Black Tofu Skin with Spicy Salmon Salad (P120). Put tofu skin on the menu and I’m guaranteed to order it. This black tofu pouch with sushi rice and topped with spicy salmon salad is a winner. Sweet flavors of the tofu skin balance out the spiciness of the salmon salad, it’s just a bit harder to eat because of it’s size.
Genki Roll (P160). Salmon skin roll topped with fresh salmon. Soft and creamy topping with a nice crunch in the middle.
Scallop with Pollock Roe (P200). Scallop sushi topped with pollock roe then seared. They have a lot of different variants available on the menu and all are good.Raw seafood topped with a creamy, salty, and smoky roe mix is a good pairing.
Spicy Tuna Gunkan (P90). Sushi boat topped with spicy tuna cubes.
They have also added some dessert options but I don’t recommend them, better to move to another place.
Genki Sushi is perfect for the quick sushi craving when strolling in a mall, get the quirkier stuff like the seared pollock roe, the tofu skin items or the new fried sides.
