Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza, Proudly Home Grown

February 15, 2016 by Richard

Ginos Brick Oven Pizza Salcedo Makati

Gino’s Brick Oven Pizza is one of the local success stories, taking on all comers including big name foreign franchises. Started by Jutes and Cello Templo beside their donut shop Cello’s in Katipunan. Irene and I got to try it years ago but we’re rarely in the Katipunan area. They have gone on to open 3 more branches for a total of 4.

This was a visit months ago to their Salcedo Village, Makati branch which is much closer to us then. This branch has been supplanted by the more recent and bigger Podium branch.

This branch looks very cozy with the brick walls and comfy booths along the walls. The place is on the small side so be prepared to wait a bit.

Ginos Brick Oven Pizza Makati Burrata Proscuitto

We started out with an order of their Classic Burrata with Proscuitto (P415). It’s served with bread sticks and olive oil. Burrata is a fresh cheese made from mozzarella and cream, creamy and soft. The salty proscuitto plays the perfect foil for the light burrata. There are other burrata options like salads and even one with bolognese sauce.

We were eating with Lauren so she had to have something that was ok for her. She gravitated towards the Bacon and Gouda Pizza (P390) but she requested to change the gouda to mozzarella which the kitchen readily agreed to.

She was quite happy with her generously bacon topped pizza, finished half of it.

Ginos Brick Oven Pizza Makati SMEGG Pizza

Irene and I shared the Smegg Pizza (P450). It’s topped with crushed homemade sausage, mushroom, eggs, Gouda cheese and cream. I enjoyed this one a lot with its strong earthy and meaty flavors. The egg adds an extra dose of creaminess but Irene’s not too fond of soft egg yolks so we have not ordered this again. Our new regular pizza order is the Panna Sausage.

Ginos Brick Oven Pizza Makati Spicy Honey

A lot of people also swear by Gino’s special spicy honey which they add to every slice. I’m ok with adding it but also love their pizza plain so try it out and see which way you like it.

Irene and I have also discovered the Lemon and Mushroom pasta, a simple dish we order every time. This was a special dish they created for Mushrooms Go Pink but was so well received it became a permanent part of their menu.

Ugh, gotta motivate and make our way back to Gino’s soon. Haven’t been in years kaya ang dami na sigurong bago. Looks sooo good.

Yup, one of our regular places. Good thing they have more branches now. Podium might be your best bet, easier parking and restaurant is twice as large as any other branch.
