Happy Lemon

November 28, 2010 by Richard

A bright yellow and black facade adorns the storefront of Happy Lemon in Greenhills, the newest drink place in the metro. It is a franchise from Hong Kong that now has branches in Singapore, Australia, Japan, Shanghai, and New York.

After our lunch at Lugang, we headed over here for drinks/dessert. Irene and I had actually tried it out a few days before that’s why we wanted to introduce Jane and Abet to the place.

While ordering at the counter you will not miss the poster above proclaiming they have the world’s yummiest drinks. The counter is a little cramped though and it caused confusion among customers on where to properly line up. I did not like the over-sized chairs (nice as they are) they had inside since it fills the place up unnecessarily and makes it hard to move around.

After ordering, you will be given a number in the shape of a lemon, the flip side of which is their mascot, the winking lemon headed girl. I really liked the design of the number as it is not to big to be a hindrance while you hold it in your hand waiting for your drinks.

Irene ordered Coffee with Rock Salt and Cheese (P100/large). This is a coffee drink topped with a cheese cake like foam with rock salt and coffee sprinkles. One of their unique drinks since who would have thought of adding cheese to drinks. We were instructed not to use straws since the drink would be better of we sip it a little at a time. We both felt the coffee was too strong and would probably not order this again and instead opt for the Green Tea one we had during our first visit.

I ordered one of their signature lemon drinks, Lemon Yakult Mousse (P100/large). You can barely taste the yakult in this one compared to the yakult based drinks of Serenitea since the lemon taste is very srong. I love the container the put up in front of the pick up counter where you can throw the straw wraps. I even suggested the put one near the cashier for customers who want to dispose of receipts instead of throwing them on the floor or elsewhere.I love the strong lemon flavors in the shake like drink since they had use real lemon juice. The thing I disliked was the bits and pieces of lemon skin and zest included inside, its a nice touch but I found them too sour for me.

As with any new place, a couple of tries are needed to get what you really like. Irene and I both really like the Green Tea with rock salt and cheese and would be one of our staples on our subsequent visits. With one favorite in hand, we’ll be free to try one the other drinks on the menu.

If you happen to be in Greenhills, don’t fail to have a taste of Happy Lemon especially their Rock Salt line of drinks.
