La Maison Du The is a brand of tea that hails from one of France’s oldest and most prestigious tea houses, Wine Depot is the local distributor. I attended the launch of High Tea Wednesdays at Wine Depot as well as a sampling of the whole line of teas. It made me a bit curious since I had the impression Wine Depot was just a shop selling wine, the truth was there was hidden restaurant at the back of the shop.
There are seven La Maison du The teas available in the Philippines namely Green Tea, English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Lemon and Ginger, Peppermint, Camomile and Darjeeling. They are available in tea bags as well as in loose tea form. What makes their tea special is that the tea leaves are hand torn which gives it more flavor. My favorite was the Earl Grey, because of its aroma and citrusy flavor.
La Maison Du The uses silk tea bags to contain their tea, to ensure all the flavor is seeped into the water. The translucent vessel also allow you to see and smell the aromatic tea leaves inside.
Mention high tea and images of prim and proper ladies with large hats and tiny sandwiches inevitably come up. High Tea Wednesdays at Wine Depot strives to crush that notion. For P500 only, you get a 3 plates of hot sandwiches and 3 plates of cakes (the above photo) as well as a pot of La Maison Du The tea of your choice. The hot tea can be refilled with hot water as many times as you desire or until the tea leaves loose their flavor. This set is not limited to 1 person, you can even share this among 3 or 4 people, perfect afternoon snacking and bonding.
Don’t want your drinks hot, you wish is their command, ice tea can be substituted.
You can choose to sit in their cozy booths or relax in this lush little garden.
