Homemade Treasures Cakes and Pastries

October 2, 2013 by Richard

I first discovered Homemade Treasures from a friend who said I must try their classic ensaimadas. These babies are made in Porac, Pampanga and are only delivered to Manila once a week, so I quickly ordered some. One bite was all it took for me to get hooked forever.  Chona Ayson is the baker par excellence behind Homemade Treasures.

The Classic Ensaimadas are from an heirloom recipe dating back to the 1930s. One batch takes almost 10 hours before it is finished. Open up a single ensaimada and be enticed by the aroma of butter and shredded queso de bola. Slice the ensaimada and feel the little crunch of the sugar crystals and behold the layers and layers of soft ensaimada. I love mine just as is but Irene likes it toasted to make the sugar melt.

Ensaimadas: 4 pcs – P425, 6 pcs – P600, 12 pcs – P1,200

Pastel Ruso (P1,100) is a refrigerated cake that has layers of almond and hazelnut meringue that reminds one of sansrival but is quite different. The outer layer is caramel buttercream with another coating of nuts. I love all the creamy and nuttiness that this cake yields and best of all its should be eaten cold.

Homemade Treasures give the cheese rolls an injection of cheesiness. You won’t be disappointed with the amount of cheese inside these cheese rolls. It has a whole slab (almost 1/2 of the whole pastry) that is enveloped by pillowy soft

Cheese Rolls: 6 pcs – p385, 12 pcs – P770

Almond Speculoos Cookies are nice homemade Dutch ginger cookies that are topped with slivers of almond. I prefer these cookies over the spread which are too sweet and cloying for me.

Almond Speculoos Cookies: 12 pcs – P230

A new addition to the list of pastry is the Chili Ensaimada. Classic ensaimada gets a hot kick with chili bits blended into the pastry. I found these too spicy for me.

I love guava so when I found out that Homemade Treasures came out with these Guava Mamon, I knew I had to order them. Soft guava flavored mamon with a layer of butter and guava jam. If you love guava, you have to try these.

Guava Mamons: 6 pcs – P350

Chona has also collaborated with Fog City Creamery to create ice cream flavors like Ensaimada, Lemon Speculoos Cookie Crunch and Mango Papa.

I’ve been ordering these ensaimadas for more than 3 years yet I still crave for them regularly. These are the BEST classic ensaimadas in the Philippines for me, each bite is an enjoyment.
