Li Li at New World Manila Bay has always impressed me with their dimsum selections in this side of the city. I’ve been there a number of times, for dimsum as well as regular Chinese meals. This time around we had a mix of everything from dimsum to their new range of hotpot.
Start off with a glass of their house made Guava iced tea. The hotel is pushing their sustainability programs by removing single use plastics like straws so their drinks are served with sturdy metal ones.
I eschewed ordering the usual dimsum suspects like har gao and siomai and went with some unfamiliar baskets looking to find gems. All my choices were from their dimsum all you can promo menu (P1,088 net), available from Monday to Sunday lunch service.
Steamed Wolfberry Scallop Dumpling. Cubed scallop with wolfberry/goji berry in a thin but strong wrapper and topped with fish roe. This one was so good, seafood sweetness bursting with every bite.
Steamed Chicken with Shiitake Mushroom. I’m a sucker for anything with lotus leaf in food as it imparts an aromatic tea like flavor. Sliced chicken thighs and mushroom both absorb the lotus leaf flavor to give it a different dimension.
The promo not only has steamed and fried dimsum but they also include unlimited orders of appetizers like roasted pork belly and char siu and main courses like sweet and sour pork and braised fish fillet.
Crispy Taro Tower (P388). I got curious seeing this on the menu so had to get an order. A pretty presentation that you are wont to disturb but the only way to enjoy is to dig in. Super thin strips of taro tossed in soy sauce glaze with peanuts, so addicting you’ll have to force yourself to stop eating.
Li Li chef decided to introduce their own take on hot pot because of the numerous places popping up. All soup bases are made in house and you can immediately tell the difference with the first sip, cleaner and tastier flavor. My favorites were the fresh shrimp mousse (P328/9 pcs).
