Ippudo Philippines will be launching the Miso Akamaru Ramen starting on April 15, 2015. This ramen will be available for a limited time only and will be joined by two new side dishes. I had a chance to try them out a couple of days before the launch date.
The first new side dish was the Fried Chicken Bun (P100). A new fowly take on their signature pork buns. A piece of chicken karaage tossed in a sweet glaze sandwiched between their super soft buns, cabbage and Japanese mayo. I found the pork buns so-so but these chicken buns are so good. I will definitely order them again and no sharing at all.
The 2nd side dish was the Deep fried Gyoza (P210). Deep fried gyoza topped with spring onion, spicy mayo and chili powder, served with ponzu sauce. I was a bit skeptical about these fried creations as I’ve encountered a number of badly executed ones before. I took a piece and bit and was expecting it to be dry but it was still juicy inside. It’s a different take but I still prefer the classic gyozas but those who like a bit of crunch will enjoy this.
The Miso Akamaru Ramen (P450) is composed of 3 different types of miso mixed into Ippudo’s tonkotsu soup base. It is topped with a torched rolled chashu, sansio ground pork, veggies, koyu and akamaru miso for extra kick. You can also add nori, chasu and tamago for P75.
Once you stick your chopsticks in and get the ramen, you’ll immediately notice that the ramen is totally different from what you usually get at Ippudo. The ramen noodles are curly and much thicker than the ones they use for the Karaka men. The broth is a combination of meatiness and just the right amount of spiciness for me. The torching of the chashu adds a new flavor smoky dimension to the meat. I declare this my new favorite ramen at Ippudo Philippines, I just love the thicker noodles.
You can start enjoying these new additions to the Ippudo Philippines menu on April 15, 2015. I’m not sure how long the Miso Akamaru will be available so if I were you I’d go as soon as possible especially if you love thicker ramen noodles.
