Before there was croughnuts, there was Kouign Amann, a classic French pastry introduced here by Chef Cyrille Soenen of Brasserie Cicou. It was previously only available at Brasserie Cicou as a part of their dessert offering.
The Kouign Amann dessert came with two pieces of the pastry plus a scoop of their salted caramel ice cream. A decadent and indulgent dessert best shared between two people.
Chef Cyrille recently introduced more flavors and opened a new store in SM Mega Fashionhall called KA by Cicou. It is located at the 2nd level beside the entrance to Zara.
The original plain KA is still available but they’ve added a number of other glazed options like the Coffee, Lemon, Choco, Caramel, Chocnut, Blueberry Cheesecake, Ensaymada and Peanut Butter and Jelly. They’ve made the KA smaller in height but that just makes it easier to handle and eat.
There’s more, aside from the new sweet offerings, KA has a number of savory variants. Headlining the savory lineup is the Bacon and Cheese , with Chorizo, Leeks and Goat Cheese and Tomato and Basil.

- Chocnut, Ensaymada, PB&J – P55
- Blueberry Cheesecake, Savory – P60
Whichever variant you choose, you will still taste the buttery flakes and folds of the original kouign amann since everything is just a topping. For me the plain or caramel is my choice but for people who want more variety, this is their answer.
