Karen’s Kitchen in Kapitolyo

August 3, 2015 by Richard

*This restaurant is now closed*

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo 01

Karen’s Kitchen Kapitolyo is the full service restaurant by famed home baker Karen Young. The restaurant is pretty and quaint surrounded by big shady trees. Hidden in the back of the main Kapitolyo restaurant rows adds to it’s charm.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Piano

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Antique Oven

There are many cute and interesting decor pieces like this 100 year old oven and even a piano that anyone can take a go at.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Toilet

Behind this innocent looking door is the toilet, which has a nice surprise so be sure to check the outhouse out.

Karen’s Kitchen is known for their cakes and other desserts but they also have a wide array of savory and healthy dishes to fill you up first.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Kale and Sweet Potato Chips

Start off with the Kale and Sweet Potato Chips (P155). A healthy and nutrient laden appetizer served with a balsamic vinaigrette dip on the side. Did you notice it looks like a little bouquet, you’ll see more little touches like this in Karen’s dishes.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Shiitake Mushroom Dip

This Shiitake Mushroom dip (P295), a blend of earthy and creamy is perfect with the heart shaped pastry shell crisps. Top it, dip it or just pop everything in your mouth.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Crispizza

Another good shareable starter option are their Crispizza, thin and crisp dough with a variety of toppings. We tried the Summer Garden (P285), Chicken Pesto (P285) and a new one, whose name escapes me. My favorite was the new one minus the chili, it’s savory and flavorful that has a nice crunch.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Aligue Pasata

Aligue Pasta (P275). I wanted a more punchy aligue flavor.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Mushroom Lughanigue Sausage with Sun Dried tomato
Our personal favorite was the Lughanigue (P275) pasta. Angel hair pasta with Lughanigue sausages, sun dried tomatoes and lots of garlic. Lots of in your face flavors that work together, you’ll treasure those little meaty bites of sausage.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Squid Ink Quinoa

Squid Ink Quinoa (P495). Karen puts out a healthier paella, looks like paella but uses quinoa instead of rice so you get loads of protein instead of carbs. Loaded with abundant squid ink flavors, you’ll be tasting the sea in every spoonful.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Open Faced Burger

This plate is teeming with heart shapes from the plate to the min burger, even the condiment dish is heart shaped. The burger has a taste that will remind you of your childhood.

Karens Kitchen Kapitolyo Liquid Chocolate

Beignets with Liquid Chocolate (P115). A shot of Karen’s special mix of chocolates that you can drink or spoon into your mouth. It is paired with a baked beignet and not fried to lessen the oil. The shot of chocolate will happy chocoholics jumping with glee. Not being a big chocolate lover, I enjoyed the texture and taste of the beignet but wished for more powdered sugar (because I love powdered sugar).

For dessert, try Karen’s Green Tea Layer Cake, Frozen Brazo (classic and green tea) and Sticky Toffee Pudding aside from her bestselling Red Velvet Cake and Chocolate Ganache. My favorite was the classic and green tea frozen brazo, cold, creamy and just right in terms of sweetness.

There’s a lot of love that went into Karen’s Kitchen in Kapitolyo, you can see it in the decor as well as the little things that go into every dish. It is a great place to get away from the fast pace of everyday life and while away the time with sweet and savory dishes.
