I was first introduced to Kat’s Cafe cupcakes during our staycation at Bellevue Manila last April. They graciously sent over a lot of stuff from cupcakes to cream puffs for us to try. Kat’s Cafe 24 year old owner Katrece Gamo even went and met us late at night to have us try her creations.
My favorite from the cupcakes we tried was the Mango Dulce, nice sweet mangoes in a with a very moist bottom. Irene fell in love with the Red Velvet Cupcake, the best she’d had so far in Manila. Each cupcake sells for P65 each but you get a discount of P5/each if you buy 6 pieces.
A couple of weeks later, we got a chance to visit her store, split into two areas in the same complex. One side is where the cupcakes are made while the other one is in charge of baking the cream puffs. My reason for visiting the cafe was actually wanting to try the Rootbeer Float Cupcake, a ala mode cupcake with Carmen’s Best ice cream but sadly they ran out of ice cream that day.
Cupcakes abound from the real thing to the decor and even things you can sit on, like this adorable space by the window.
This clock/cooling try area was also a nice touch. We could not fit in any of the tables in the cupcake area so we moved to the other side.
The place is a bit smaller but this just makes it cozier. Once you enter the place, you can’t help but notice this beautiful red oven. I was surprised to find out that this is made locally and is actually called “The Jill” after Chef Jill Sandique.
Look at this little display that was designed by Kat herself, a mix of old magazine and little knickknacks from her travels. This is actually a sliding door and it hides a nice little surprise.
We tried some of their cream puffs which I was surprised to find out was finished upon ordering. They pipe in the filling once you’ve made your choice from Caramel (P27), Nutella (P32) or Red Velvet (P37). If you get a box of 5, they give you a P10 discount. My favorite was the caramel.
The biggest surprise I had during the visit was this plain looking pandesal. What makes it special is the big chunk of Philadelphia Cream cheese tucked inside, so be careful biting lest you burn your tongue. This was so good, Lauren even ate 2 of them and she does not even eat pandesal. The Cream Cheese pandesal (P25) are not always available so best to give them a call first.
Kat’s Cafe also offers pastas, sandwiches, French toasts, and crepes aside from their cupcakes and cream puffs. They also do custom cakes so if you are interested, just give them a call.
Many will find BF Resort in Las Pinas very, very far but you’ll be happy to know that they are planning of offering delivery to the Makati and Ortigas areas.
I’m glad I discovered Kat’s Cafe and it’s young and passionate owner, Kat. She makes great cupcakes that can beat that overly girly designed mall cup cake store any time of the day.
