I’ve been seeing adverts of Chili Lime Chicken for a month or two but couldn’t find the opportunity to try it out. Enter the Double Down, KFC newest introduction, and I figured its a good excuse to try them both.
The Double Down (P100) is a meat less sandwich where in the buns are replaced by KFC original recipe chicken fillets and in the middle are bacon, cheese and the Colonel’s secret sauce. Its a shame the bacon was limp and not crunchy which would have added a different dimension to the soft sandwich. I also disliked the Colonel’s secret sauce, tasting somewhat like low grade mayonnaise. If you would be ordering this, I would suggest foregoing the sauce and asking for gravy instead. A cup of rice would also go great with this and would lessen the sinfulness.
Breaking it down, its actually just 2 small chicken fillets with a bacon and cheese, more or less equal tin calories to a 2 piece chicken meal at KFC.
I felt Chili Lime Chicken was going to be too spicy for me but curiosity still got the better of me. It was indeed very spicy, I think spicier than the Zinger, so I removed all the skin where most of the flavoring was. The meat inside still had a lot of citrus flavor which I love, but the spiciness was toned down enough for me to finish it with rice.
Be warned that the some KFC stores run out of Double Down, the branch in Shaw actually had a not available sign on the menu board. Good thing I asked the manager if they really was out of stock, and he said there was still one remaining order left or else I would have left disappointed.
