The KTG (our little group of foodie friends) held a Mooncake Dice Game last month. The mooncake dice game is a Filipino-Chinese tradition celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with a get together and a game filled with overflowing prizes. Players throw six dice on a bowl and they get a corresponding prize depending on the combination that comes up.
I actually planned most of it, with help from Jane who secured generous sponsors. Some sponsors provided prizes while others provided food items. We had a wide range of prizes from soda, juices, notepads, pens and all sorts of chocolates and snacks.
There was quite a number of us, almost 40 so I decided to do two playing tables. Everyone drew lots to find out which table they were assigned to as well as their order in the line.
Here’s a little banner of thanks for all our gracious sponsors.
4 big cakes from Aggy’s Cakes, Yema Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Moist Caramel Cake and Chocolate Lava.
Chef Korinne of Orange Whisk provided boxes of her signature chewy bun, now minified which made them all the more addictive. I felt they were even better than the regular sized ones as you just pop one after another.
Suzy Lee of Ha Yuan and Spring by Ha Yuan gave us GCs and boxes of her scrumptious and unique mooncakes with flavors like Bacon and Nuts, Black Sesame and lots more. We sampled the some of the mooncakes and made the rest prizes.
Our favorite cupcake store in the South, Kat’s Cupcakes sent over 15 boxes of assorted cupcakes. The boxes included Irene’s fave Red Velvet and the new improved Mango Pistachio.
Our grand prize was two boxes of mooncakes from our friends at Makati Shangri-la Hotel. Beautifully packaged in velour splendor, with mini mooncakes of delight inside.
On to our food line up.
We had pack lunches, Beef Pot Roast with rice and buttered vegetables, provided by Gracey’s Gourmet Kitchen. This was pretty good even though it was not hot anymore when we ate it. The beef was tender and the sauce was perfect for the rice. Gracey’s Kitchen is known for their Caviar pie and Valhrona cupcakes, you can order thru 0922-894 5148.
Orange Whisk also provided us with these Cheesy Minced Beef Puffs.
We had 2 porcine delights, the first was from Diplahan Lechon. It was their new lechon belly, a mix of the Italian porchetta with local flavors. Irene did the cutting as she dissected and served the belly roll.
The 2nd piggy delight was care of Pepita’s Lechon who sent over a Stuffed Truffle Lechon de Leche. Crackling skin with truffle rice surprise inside. Spanky got the honors of carving up our lechon, which he gleefully got into character.
Dedet of Pepita’s Lechon not only sent us the stuffed lechon but also her Super Suman.
Our desserts were from Chef Anna Chua of My Pink Wasabi. A dessert buffet featuring her signature Kashi Maki and other baked goodies.
Kathi and Sumi shared the grand price (Chiong Guan) in our table so they each went home with 4 pieces of mooncake each.
For the ones that were unlucky in the dice game, they still went home happy with packs of Angus Tapa (Spicy Angus, Original, Korean and Angus Salpicao) from Jam Foods and Pork Hamonado from Chorizo de Cebu. W even had a cute little addition to our photo because someone wanted a pic with her ate Lauren.
