I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Lazy Bastard and finally got a chance to check them out. It’s located in the basement in the same building as Mitsuyado Seimen with their entrance on the side (Galaxy St.). They’ve got a big sign of what to expect at Lazy Bastard so just look for that and you are good. Parking is a bit hard although they do have a couple of spaces in front.
There’s a short flight of stairs to get to this very hip and industrial looking entrance.
Lazy Bastard is really small with a row of bar seats on one side and 3 tables on the other. There’s a giant menu board where you can decide on what you want to order then just head on over to the cashier to place it. She’ll call you out again once it’s ready. There’s also a side door hidden behind a wall that leads to ABV speakeasy.
For bacon lovers, this neon sign on the brick wall will make your heart aflutter.
We got two burgers for me and Lauren while Irene got one of their hotdogs. They don’t have any serving containers so your orders will be in foil or paper bags.
Here’s my Bacon Cheeseburger (P220). It had a nice beef flavor but a little too charred for my tastes, the bacon was also burned. Lauren’s bacon was undercooked and her burger was unevenly seasoned, she only had a bite or two and was overwhelmed by the pepper.
I had an order of onion rings while Lauren had the fries to go with our burgers. You can upgrade your burger or hotdog to a Combo (P90) to get a drink and a side (fries, tots, rings). Both the fries and the rings were well done with minimal oiliness.
The star of Lazy Bastard is the Honey Parmensan Dog (P200). Bacon wrapped hotdog in a soft bun with Parmesan cheese slivers, lettuce and a drizzle of honey. The hotdog has a good snap and the sweet/salty flavors works really well with the bacon. I had a bite of this and was kicking myself for ordering the burger.
Irene and I are eager to go back and get more of the hotdogs which I think are the best in Manila. There’s also a build your own breakfast sandwich that I want to try. So if you are hankering for some comfort food at almost any hour then head on over to Lazy Bastard.
