Local Edition Coffee and Tea in Perea St., Makati

July 25, 2014 by Richard

Irene and I had a little lunch 2 Saturdays ago at Patricio’s Cevicheria (posting this soon), we headed for some coffee before doing a number of errands. I suggested we try a new place in Makati I heard about on Facebook, Local Edition Coffee and Tea, located on Perea St. in Legazpi Village.

Local Edition Coffee and Tea was so new the outside signage was still wrapped in plastic. Since it was a Saturday, parking was a breeze, we got a space right in front.

Other Restaurants on Perea St.

  • Mom and Tina’s
  • Ba Noi’s

Local Edition Coffee and Tea Makati Outdoor Seating

They have nice seating outside for smokers or if you just like to watch life go by.

There’s a number of different seating options but we had the pick since there was no other customers. We picked the communal table in the middle to have more space.  The grids on the walls are apparently meant for art installations. I can’t wait to come back and see what they do with the big wall spaces.

It feels like a fiesta inside the store with the banderitas hung throughout the ceiling.

There’s also a wall with their logo and mismatched wood pieces and shelves holding potted plants and coffee paraphernalia, all for sale. I was even surprised to see their music being sent through an old Altec Lansing speaker system. I had those eons ago and can’t believe theirs is still working.

Time to order, it’s super easy to order your coffee at Local Edition because they only serve one blend called the Perea blend. They only use local coffee beans, which is good since this helps local farmers.

After getting your choice of caffeine (coffee/tea), you can then choose your usual preparation (espresso, long black, flat white, cappuccino, latte). I had a cappuccino (P135/regular) while Irene had her usual latte (P135/regular). They have a couple of hot, savory items but since we just had lunch, I’ll try that on the next visit.

After a short wait, our orders were called out. We got our orders in paper cups with sleeves. I hope they add a dine in cup option to minimize waste. I love the packaging but sitting and relaxing with a ceramic or glass cup would be much much better.

I then noticed the little yellow thing on top of the coffee cup, it was an iced gems cookie. I love those cookies when I was a kid and this really brings back a bit of nostalgia.  Too bad they gave us two iced gems of the same color.  Local Edition Coffee and Tea Makati CapuccinoLocal Edition Coffee and Tea Makati Interior

Local Edition Coffee and Tea is a nice new addition to the tree laden street of Perea. The interiors are still a work in progress but it’s cozy and a nice place to hang or work. Irene and I both enjoyed our cups and would definitely drop by again when we are in the area. I’m glad more and more independent coffee shops are opening and are passionate about their products unlike the commercialized chain stores.
