I’ve attempted to eat at Lola Cafe + Bar before but was thwarted since it was a Monday. I finally got the chance to eat in this kinda hidden restaurant with only a little name in front announcing its presence. I’ve been hearing lots of great things about the place but was never able to venture there since there were only open for dinner before. Drive slowly on Lozano St. of you just might miss the entrance, surrounded by lush greenery.
Like many new restaurants in the Tomas Morato area, Lola Cafe + Bar renovated an old house, keeping the frame but totally sprucing up the place. This is what I feel leads to the homey feeling you get when you get to Lola Cafe. Done predominantly in a black and white with lots of interesting hanging on the wall.

Eating out with Irene’s sister means one thing, lots and lots of dishes. We started with a Lola’s Salad (P230), mixed greens with crispy bacon and a poached egg in a balsamic vinaigrette. Anything with poached egg and bacon gets my attention. Break the egg and mix the yolk into the greens together with the tangy acidic dressing.
We also got a plate of Nachos (P220). My table mates don’t eat beef so we requested the kitchen to substitute with chorizo and they readily agreed (kudos to them). It actually makes it more special and tastes different than the usual nachos. Maybe they should consider adding this to the menu.
Next appetizer on our order list, Gamas y Chorizo (P280). Baby prawns, chorizo, olive oil and heaps of garlic, they served this with tortillas on the side. I think crostinis would have been a better match. A nice blend of flavors, sweet prawns, meaty chroizo accentuated by the toasted garlic.
Irene and I shared a Mushroom Soup (P150) while her sister had the Pumpkin Soup (P90). Irene and I enjoyed the chunky texture of the pureed mushrooms with just a bit of nuttiness from crushed cashews. The pumpkin soup was on the underwhelming side though.
The parade of main courses started with a Omurice (P190). Something decidedly Japanese, that is Filipinized. Chorizo rice ensconced in omelette then topped with a yin yang of sauces, aioli and onion gravy. Its served with a side of salted eggs and tomatoes. I suggest adding the side to the rice for a strong flavor punch.
Irene’s main course choice was the Adobo Balsamic Chicken (P330). A traditional adobo but using Balsamic vinegar. Fragrant and beautiful as its laid on the table, beckoning one to devour it together with heaps of rice. Fail to order this at Lola Cafe and you’ll regret it. The sauce is tangy, sweet and savory all at the same time.
We also had a couple of pasta dishes, the first is the Spicy Tinapa Pasta (P185). Smoky and tangy flavors with a touch of chili to liven it up. I found the level of spiciness just right but Irene did not. So for those who have a lower tolerance, feel free to ask them to lessen it.
The Aligue Pasta (P240) was the biggest disappointment of the meal. The pasta looked like incandescent orange strips that seemed to scream fake food. We had it wrapped after one bite.
S ordered the Salmon Benedicts (P480) and was quite happy with his order. Hollandaise sauce, eggs and salmon combine to make mesmerizing colors. I have my eyes set on the Tapa Benedicts next time around.
We were already quite full but wanted a bit of dessert to balance all the strong flavors. Our pick as the Pistachio Pavlova (P90). I was expecting a slice of pavlova, a meringue based desserts usually served with fruits. What came out was bite sized pieces of pistachio dacquiose, served in a nice gray stone tile, opped with mango cubes and creme. Crunchy and chewy with bits of nuttiness and sweetness. A nice and light dessert that could use a bit less sugar.
Lola Bar + Cafe serves some wonderful food amidst a homey and lush setting. The interiors are enjoyable and interesting whist service was attentive yet unobtrusive. The prices are very reasonable considering the ingredients and serving size. So if you are looking for a nice place to have a lazy brunch or an interesting dinner then Lola Cafe + Bar should definitely be on your list.

Ate here during Connor’s actual birthday and was very satisfied! Food was good and the staff – very friendly and efficient. Some kinda hard to park though since the street is narrow, but okay lang. Hehehe.. Would definitely go back..
I agree, food and service are both good. We got there early so was able to park inside.
