Lush Hour is Mesclun Bistro‘s version of happy hour and starts 5pm and lasts until 8pm daily. Mesclun serves unlimited amounts of selected wine, cocktails and beer for P490 net.
Pair your drinks with some of the delectable small plates from Mesclun’s menu for a perfect way to wind down after a stressful day at work. This happy hour promo can be availed at all Mesclun branches (Linden Suites, Eastwood and Serendra)
We started off with a Ginger Caipirinha, a light, sweet and refreshing drink with a nice ginger finish. This drink is similar to a mojito minus the mint. The sweetness masks the alcohol taste and this is something I can enjoy. Be sure to avoid getting a bite of the ginger pieces.
While Irene had a caipirinha, I settled on a bottle of ice cold San Miguel Premium beer. The other beer choice is a Heineken.
We paired our drinks with Escargots (P345), cooked in butter and parsley and served with a piece of baguette. Be sure to the bread in the indulgent butter sauce.
Next round saw my lush hour mates ordering the Mango Mojito. The classic drink is given a sweet Filipino twist by way of cubed fresh mangoes. I actually had this after my beer and felt this was sweeter than the caipirinha but a lot more interactive since you can eat the mango cubes while drinking.
The last cocktail on the list is a Frozen Margarita, which is actually Irene’s favorite cocktail. You can choose between the classic or the strawberry. The strawberry uses frozen strawberries in the mix so the flavor is more authentic. Irene enjoyed both version and the frozen nature is actually perfect to cool down from the heat.
Buffalo Balls (P315). One of all time favorites at Mesclun ever since we tried it at their first outlet in Linden Suites. Boneless chicken meatballs coated in buffalo wing sauce with bleu cheese sauce on the side. Perfect for people who hate bones and I know there are a lot of them out there, me included.
Portobello Mushroom Duxelles (P395). Fresh portobelllo mushrooms diced and finished with truffle oil. This was the first time I’ve tried this and despite my aversion to truffle, I found myself enjoying this topped on the crostinis.
Andre’s Poke (P345). This was my favorite when the Serendra branch opened, tuna tossed in a soy-sesame and sriracha mayo dressing.
Our new discovery was the Blue Cheese Salpicao (P525). US tenderloin cubes and mushrooms cooked in a blue cheese sauce. The blue cheese flavor is not pungent and actually quite mild, presenting itself only at the end.
The Charcuterie and Cheese Platter (845) is the perfect partner for their selection of wines, which you can have unlimited refills of. Parma ham, salume, Gruyere and Grana Padano with cornichons and baguettes make up the varied platter.
The only lackluster dish we had that night was the Yakuza Chicken (P295). The chicken pieces were not well seasoned although they were cooked well, maybe the marination did not seep in. Good thing the savory sauce saved the day.
Here’s the complete Lush Hour selection:
- Ginger Caipirinha
- Mango Mojito
- Frozen Margarita (classic or strawberry)
- San Miguel Premium
- Mason Hebrard 2011 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
- Gerard Bertrand Reserve Speciale Chardonnay
- Crane Lake 2011 Malbec

Chef Katrina gives classic Filipino desserts a little twist like this Ice Cream Sandwich (P160). Soft and airy Japanese milk bread sandwich a scoop of Arce Dairy ice cream of your choice, it was ube and langka for me. The small sandwiches are rolled in crushed to give it a contrasting texture. You can play and customize your sandwich with strawberry syrup and cream served on the side.
Carabao Milk Halo Halo (P245) arrives in imposing glory with a stick of barquillos crowning the glass surrounded by two scoops of ice cream and a triangle of Yema. A little container of carabao’s milk is served on the side, which is a bit of overkill already since Mesclun uses milk ice and not ordinary ice. Pour how much milk you like and mix everything before indulging in a rich and creamy Filipino cooler.
The Pinoy Samalamig line are tentatively available until June 30, 2014 but I’m hoping they add it the menu permanently.
There so much more to love at Mesclun Bistro, starting with the value for money Lush Hour promo and ending with some sweet Pinoy desserts with a host of their best dishes in between. You can enjoy the Lush Hour promo at Linden Suites, Serendra and Eastwood branches of Mesclun Bistro.
