Maitre Chocolatier has always intrigued me whenever I pass bu Jupiter St. in Makati but am always hesitant to try it out. Finally, on a rare night that Irene and I were the only ones out, we decided to try someplace new that we are not sure Lauren would like that turned out to be Maitre. t was a quiet Saturday evening, and at 7pm we were the only ones there. I had heard about their interesting chocolate infused food dishes and that was the reason for our picking the place. We picked a couple of dishes to share and held off ordering any dessert.
White Chocolate Omelette with Vegetables (P80). This was a good vegetable omelette, too bad I really could not taste any of the white chocolate.I don’t know if they forgot to put some in or the amount was too little to make a difference.
Maitre Chocolatier’s Sausage (P150). You are given a choice of Lindt White or Dark Chocolate filling as well a number of sausages. We picked Dark Chocolate to go with our Hungarian sausage and it was delicious. The dark chocolate tempered the spiciness of the sausage, giving it a smooth gooey filling. I would definitely eat this again, and Irene agrees with me.
Grilled Chicken in Chocolate Pomegranate Sauce (P295) This is quite a healthy dish without the sauce, a piece of chicken breast is grilled and the sauce is served at the side. The sauce was a bit sweet but we could not really taste the chocolate again.
There’s a mannequin that’s displayed near the door that at first glance you might miss. Its sporting a golden top and brownish skirt. Upon closer inspection, you will find out that the whole thing is made out of different parts of a Ferrero Rocher chocolate wrapper.
Aside from the Ferrero display, there are a couple of decorative touches throughout the store sporting these glass chocolate blocks like the entrance display and the kitchen counter.
Beside the dining area, there is a large display of chocolates for sale, giving chocolate lovers even more temptation.
Maitre Chocolatier is a nicely decorated place well suited as a date place away from the crowds. There are interesting decorative pieces that’s very unique and centered around chocolate. Although we only tried their savory dishes and they were hit and miss, I admire them for trying to create something different with a product that is more often than not associated with dessert. We will have to come back and try their signature chocolate desserts with Lauren in tow, but we will make sure to order the sausages again.
