Makati Shangri-La celebrates World Food Day 2018 with the theme #GrowingTogether, focused on their use of ethically sourced ingredients for the hotel’s culinary requirements. World Food Day is observed on October 16 in more than 150 countries with a goal of creating a hunger free world by 2030. Makati Shangri-La is the only hotel in the Philippines that participates in this global movement.

The hotel has chosen to focus on the importance of locally sourced produce and sustainable farming techniques. The hotel has increased its demand for local produce by 15% and will increase this further in the following years.  Chef Nicola Canuti has created 5 healthy salads that highlights locally sourced produce from local farms like Gourmet Farms. These healthy creations will be available at Circle’s Event Cafe until October 21, 2108 but more of these creations will be added throughout the year.

World Food Day 2018 Makati Shangrila Red Cabbage Salad
World Food Day 2018 Makati Shangrila Lentil Avocado and Kale Salad
World Food Day 2018 Makati Shangrila Grilled Vegetable with Parsley Pesto
World Food Day 2018 Makati Shangrila Corn Salad with White and Black Beans
World Food Day 2018 Makati Shangrila Broccoli and Pumpkin Salad

The five salad creations are Red Cabbage, Corn salad with White and Black Beans, Broccoli and Pumpkin Salad with Honey Vinaigrette, Grilled Vegetable with Parsley Pesto and Lentil, Avocado and Kale. My favorites were the crisp and refreshing red cabbage salad and the leafy and creamy lentil with avocado and kale.

It was so surprising to find out the wide range of local produce we have including red cabbage, kale and mini radish that are grown in Tagaytay, Cavite and Baguio. I used to only see them during visits to markets in other countries.
