During my quick getaway to Boracay Mandarin Island Hotel, I was able to experience the services of their eponymous Mandarin Spa. I was asked to choose one among Traditional Filipino Hilot, Aroma Stone Theraphy, Madarin Tropical Fruit Facial or Mango Butter Body Scrub. I immediately picked the hilot, not a fan of the idea of the hot stone and I don’t ever see myself trying the fruit facial nor the body scrub. Notice that snowman outside, beckoning people in, he is one popular character on White Beach as I saw countless number of people stopping and having their picture taken with it.
I actually got to the spa a little later than my scheduled time after having a bit of a good time taking a dip in the ocean then the pool with Fran and Paul. Upon arrival at the reception area, I was asked to choose the oil that will be used, I selected Ylang-Ylang. The asked me to remove my slippers then provided me with rubber ones bearing the hotel logo, and promptly led to the shower and changing area.
The locker provided contained a bathrobe, towel and oddly enough a toothbrush set. I had just showered after my swim and was not interested the sauna, so just proceeded to change into the bathrobe to start my hilot session. I had woken up quite early that day and was a bit tired from the traveling also so I was looking forward to relaxing during my spa session.
I was led into a couples room even if I was all by myself. The room obviously had 2 beds, but it also had a bad tub, a shower area and even a wash basin. Nicely adorned with stone murals and walls, nice lighting which they softened upon starting the hilot session.

I was asleep in no time under the magic hands of my masseuse until I was literally shocked out of my stupor when warm banana leaves were placed on my back as part of the service. The banana leaves are supposed to draw out the “lamig” (coldness) in the body similar to the hot stones. The photo above is obviously not me as I was away in dreamland, too busy relaxing to take any photo.
I thoroughly enjoyed the session, it removed a lot of the aches and pains in my body and added to the relaxing mood of that Boracay weekend.
