Our regular supermarket is Pioneer Center Supermart or PC for short because of its proximity, ample free parking as well as very competitive prices. It’s located in a sprawling complex with many different fast food places as well as ChaTime. They are constantly adding new tenants and one of them is Match and Mix, a small hole in the wall casual place serving rice toppings.
The place has a couple of chair and tables in a white and black industrial look with the menu written on the blackboard above the kitchen area. It’s small and can probably sit 20 people max.
The menu is very easy to understand with 6 entrees and 6 rice choices, although there are suggested combinations but you are free to mix and match them. Each rice topping bowl costs P100, this looks like their promo price but from what I have seen is still the current price.
My choice was Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs mixed with Beef Tapa Rice. The rice dishes are precooked and just reheated upon ordering while the entrees are cooked upon order. There only 4 pieces of spare ribs with a bit of meat only and more bone than I expected. The taste was pretty good though, but it was the rice I really enjoyed, full of flavor and tasty. There’s a generous amount of rice so it will definitely fill you up.
Irene’s choice was the Chicken in Salted Egg partnered with Yang Chow Fried Rice. We swapped entrees so I was also able to try this, and we both agreed that it was the better one. The chicken was a great match with the rice.
We inquired about the option of adding more entrees since we eat more viands than rice but was told they did not have the option yet. There was really a generous amount of rice and we just had our left overs to go.
Match and Mix offers quick, no frills yet good and filling food. The place is very accessible and convenient that we will definitely be back, hopefully we can add entrees.
