I visited Hyatt City of Dreams a couple of days ago to sample Mayura Sation wagyu at The Cafe.I had no inkling what I was in for when I sat down waiting for lunch. I thought it was going to be just some steaks as part of their buffet setup. Mayura Station comes from South Australia and because of the breeding locale and factors, it is known as one of the best wagyu outside of Japan. A lot of other dining establishments in Manila use Mayura Station wagyu including Antonio’s, one of Asia’s best restaurants.
The Cafe is nicely designed with extremely high ceilings and the oh so lovely silver circular metal divider.
The Cafe has 7 stations and most of them do ala minute cooking to keep food fresh and tastier.
We started the lunch with a French Onion Soup, a pretty good one considering it’s part of the buffet.
We now get to meet the “BEAST”, a 100 pound (45kg) Mayura Station wagyu leg that takes 4 days (3 days marinade + 1 day slow cooking) to prepare. Everyone who passed it stopped and took a photo, it was just so imposingly large.
The Beast is going to be a bonus in The Cafe’s weekend buffet spreads until May 3, both lunch and dinner. The Beast is located at the Grill station and is served as a shawarma, steak or bbq cut with a plethora of sauces to add on. I suggest trying it out sans any sauce to appreciate the tenderness and flavor of the Mayura Station wagyu.
I hardly had space in my tummy to explore the buffet with a large portion of it devoted to devouring pieces of the Beast. I started with my favorite Japanese station with their sushi and sashimi offerings.
If you love noodles, you’ll love their many choice from almost all Asian countries.
Stainless steel fry baskets to serve their deep fried selections like these squid pieces, genius.
An interesting thing I saw at The Cafe was these wooden trays to help you carry your plates teeming with food.
I finished with some desserts and discovered an Ube Macapuno and Langka cake that was so good, I wished I had more space to get more.
