Merry Moo Ice Cream

July 25, 2012 by Richard

I love ice cream, its one those things that I can eat anytime, anywhere. When Kelvin, the Chief Ice Cream Officer at Merry Moo contacted me to ask if I wanted to give some of his creations a taste test, how could I resist. I first came across Merry Moo in Mercato more than a year ago, I remember trying their Strawberry Basil, and found it quite refreshing.

Kelvin delivered 3 different flavors for me to try, Poprocks and Mallows, Earl Grey Tea and Sea Salt Caramel.

The first flavor I took pictures of was the Poprocks and Mallows. Taking pictures of ice cream is so hard, it melts and worst of all, it beckons me to devour it. The ice cream is mostly cream colored with slight color form the Poprocks, those old school popping candies. (I’m surprised they still make them).

Lauren was waiting in the wings, asking when I’ll be finished taking pictures since she already wanted to try. Her comment was its too milky, and thats coming from someone who drinks milk like water. I got a taste too and it was a tad too creamy for my tastes also. Irene skipped this one as she’s not a fan of vanilla.

Next up is the Sea Salt Caramel, the three of us have been on a salted caramel thing for a while from ice cream to candies. It was no surprise that when Lauren heard that it was sea salt caramel, she could not wait to snatch the cup from the table. She had a taste then proceeded to leave, giving us no choice but to scoop again to get a taste. Irene and I both loved this but felt that we can only have so much, we stopped after having a scoop each.

The final flavor was Earl Grey Tea, a mix of Chinese tea and Citrus Bergamot. The light fragrance from scooping it out of the pint was quite enticing already promising the milk tea taste that is so much the rage.

I quickly finished off snapping my shots so I could get a taste and it was well worth it. The best was saved for last, this is by far the best flavor we tried. Each spoonful just hits the taste buds perfectly, a creamy mix of flavors with a nice cirtusy finish.

Merry Moo Ice Cream makes excellent homemade ice cream. I’ve got that Earl Grey Tea programmed in my taste buds, from which all other such tea ice creams will be compared to in the future (and that a pretty high bar).  I love the their commitment to creating lots of new and exciting flavors as well as their desire to make them even better by way of customer comments.

I wonder if they might accept me as Chief Ice Cream Taster…..
