Mesclun is the in house restaurant of Linden Suites, an intimate hotel in the heart of Ortigas. Chef Katrina Kuhn-Alcantara of Chuck’s Deli is the one handling the kitchen. The restaurant serves buffet breakfast for the hotel guests and ala carte lunch and dinner.
Located on the 2nd floor of Tower 1, moving up the stairs you’ll get a inkling of the simple and cheery space. Swathed in greens and browns, it exudes a warmth of familiarity but punctuated with the unexpected, like this interesting wine wall.
Complimentary bread is served in a wooden board complete with a cute vial of flavored butter.
We started with Mushroom Duxelles (P395), truffled portobello mushrooms with home made crostini. Crunchy and earthy with the requisite truffle
Say bye-bye to bones with the Buffalo Balls (P395) served with a side of bleu cheese. The spicy and tangy buffalo taste is still here in fork friendly form.
Try their Sourdough Pizzas, you can’t go wrong with either the Salume Calabrese (P345) or the Anchovies. (P245). Crusty, chewy bread with strong flavors, I expected nothing less from Chef Katrina after enjoying Chuck’s Deli.
Sisig Spaghetti (P245). this dish is the single biggest reason to go to Mesculun. Light cream sauce coating with pork sisig mixed in, with more evil chicharon as garnish. Creamy, with crisp textures and a kick of spice will leave you wanting more. Leave your calorie counting at the door and just indulge with this one. You can also ask them to temper the spiciness if you prefer.
Mac and 4 Cheese (P495), a sophisticated version of the childhood favorite. Emmenthal, Fontina, Mozzarella and Grada Paddano cheeses encase the macaroni with a hint of lemon to cut the cloying taste.
Duck Confit (P995), French duck leg cooked in goose fat. Its cooked slowly to maintain the juicy meat despite the crispy and crackly skin. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it once you bite into it.
Go healthy with the Grilled Pompano (P555) served with mango-tomato salsa.
After going healthy, don’t forget dessert with the Banana Nutella Crepe a la mode (P215). Ice cream, bananas, Nutella and fresh crepe make for a nice finish to our lazy lunch.
The food at Mesclun is familiar fare given a nice fun twist. The place is virtually hidden unless you know where to look so its the perfect venue to hie away from the hustle and bustle.
