Milky Way Deli in Greenhills has been there for quite a while but I’m never paid it much mind. They were tucked into the corner and obscured by the more enticing Haagen Daz. Finally, one afternoon, Irene decided that we should try out their halo-halo after seeing it mentioned many times on Facebook. Irene considers halo-halo her ultimate comfort food so she’s always on the lookout for ones to try.

We actually ate at their old location a couple of times but lately have been visiting the new space (previously occupied by Haagen Daz). It’s brighter with glass surrounding it and feels much fresher. One thing you’ll notice is that the clientele skews towards the more senior crowd. I guess it probably owes to the fact that the restaurant started way back in the 1960s in Old San Miguel, near Malacanang.

We would usually visit Milkyway Deli for dessert or afternoon snack which always means halo-halo. This time around we wanted to try out their lunch dishes. Irene had Bopis while I got a plate of Bistek Tagalog, both came with a cup of rice each. We of course were saving our tummyies for dessert what with those glasses of halo-halo tempting us from the chiller.

The Milky Way Halo-Halo (P125) is probably the best I’ve ever had so far. It all starts with the purple scoop on top, super creamy ube ice cream which Milky Way makes themselves. The ice is shaved so there’s no irritating big pieces while enjoying the dessert.

I usually get a little spoonful or two of the ube ice cream to tide me by while I mix the kaleidoscope of color. Mixing the ube ice cream produces a iced purple concoction that yields a surprise in every spoonful.

This is the end result of every glass of Milky Way halo-halo we’ve ever had, finished to the last drop.

Milky Way Deli is a great place to sample some home-style Filipino food but best of all they serve the best glass of halo-halo I’ve ever had. If you love halo-halo, you must give Milky Way’s a try and tell me what you think of it.
