A couple of weeks ago, I got a chance to get a relaxing weekend courtesy of the nice people at Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu. I was a bit sad because Lauren and Irene were initially supposed to come with me but our trip was postponed twice, 1st time was because of the earthquake and the 2nd time was because of super typhoon Yolanda.
Our introduction to Movenpick’s brand of service started at the Mactan International Airport when we were picked up by these white chariots to bring us to our weekend getaway. These are also the shuttles that takes registered guests to SM and Ayala free of charge that leaves on a set schedule everyday.
Our chariot dropped us off at the breezy lobby. I had no idea Mövenpick was this chic and pretty since this was my first time there, I still had memories of its past life as a parading flamingo. The mostly white with splashes of green and sea foam exudes relaxation.
Our plane touched down a bit later than scheduled so we got there just in time for “Chocolate Hour“. A staff member goes around the lobby from 3:00 to 4:00pm daily and gives away pieces of chocolate. You read that right, FREE Chocolates, and the ones they were giving out that day were these scrumptious chocolate cream puffs.
Check in was a breeze and you can even rest up on those giant lounge chairs while waiting for them to process. Put up your feet and relax, remember it’s a resort.
I suggest a trip to their quirky and fun toilets, located beside the lobby. Be careful what door you open, it might not be what you expect. Try out those giant green funnel thingys.
After that little side trip, I took the elevator up to my room, a Deluxe Room (P7979/night for local residents). The cool hues of the ocean is still maintained, keeping it clean and relaxing. There’s a big flatscreen tv on the console with enough space for everything. I loved the big dropping floor lap, kinda like a giant lighted Mentos. The floor is tiled but not slippery even when wet, just don’t go running around like crazy. The bed and pillows are so comfortable that you might not want to get out of bed. The usual amenities in a hotel room are present, refrigerator, mini bar, coffee/tea maker. The safety deposit box, robes as well as free Wi-Fi is available in the room.
A quick trip to the bathroom reveals separate shower and bath areas as well as a box of Chopard toiletries (WOW). Best of all its all in blue, I’m loving the colors.
I got a little squishy surprise when I was soaking in the tub, instead of a rubber duck they have a rubber fish to keep kids and adults company.
Exploring the resort you’ll find the game room with its pool table, cheese board, foosball table and a XBOX Kinect available for use. I can see great bonding sessions for family and friends here.
Further down are the pools, 1 kiddie pool and 1 regular pool with different depth as well as lounge chairs right in the water. These chairs are very pretty when lighted up, makes you just want to like back and while the time away. You may be wondering why the trees are a bit denuded, it’s because of the recent super typhoon.
You can lie back and have a massage at the spa or right on the beach in the gazebo.
There are lots of lounge chairs in the garden facing the ocean where you can read a book or just close your eyes for a breezy nap. Want some privacy while enjoying the beach, you can rent one of the private cabanas and live life like a boss.
I’ve got a little tip, if you love fish feeding then you’d definitely enjoy the one at Mövenpick Hotel Mactan located near the Ibiza Beach Club. There’s hardly anyone doing and the fishes come in a rainbow of colors. The staff has day old bread to keep them coming.
I lived a little on the wild side, trying parasailing for the first time in my life. I’m deathly afraid of heights but somehow my friends got me to agree to it. Water sports activities at Mövenpick Hotel Mactan are handled by Dive Scottty. I was strapped on a harness with a chute and rope that was released to a height of 150m, they even have higher ones upto 350m but that’s way too much excitement for me. I might not do parasailing ever again but at least I’ve crossed it off my bucket list.
The weekend also saw me having my first ever Cebu city tour that started at the Pari-an Monument. I’ve been to Cebu 5 times but have only visited the malls and not one of it many historic sites.
Getting back to my room after a full day and look what I found. Turn down service which included pieces of Toblerone chocolates.

The views from the ocean front rooms are to die for. Don’t you wish you could wake up to that everyday.
