NAV Modern Thai Spices it Up with New Dishes

May 4, 2015 by Richard

NAV Modern Thai is a small restaurant in Kapitolyo by Chef Francis Lim (Tipple and Slaw). I’ve eaten there many years before but was excited to revisit with the promise of new dishes.

We got to try almost all their new savory dishes but finished with an old menu item for dessert.

Nav Modern Thai Pad Thai Spring Rolls

Our new journey into Chef Francis’ creations began with the Pad Thai Spring Rolls (P200). There a little fun play with this dish, your favorite Thai noodle dish is chopped up and stuffed inside rice paper rolls. The result is a different and much more flavorful appetizer.

Nav Modern Thai Khao Soi Chicken Wings

We have more noodles next, this time a Northern Thai classic, Khao Soi with Crispy Chicken Wings (P350). There’s curry and coconut cream flavors that give a nutty, pungent and tangy dimensions to complement the smooth rice noodles. The chicken wings adds a nice, crunchy, munchable side.

Nav Modern Thai Tom Yum Fried Chicken

Tom Yum Fried Chicken (P350). Chicken marinated in tom yum soup so you get a myriad of flavors (spicy, sour and salty). Each piece is a flavor punch that you’d instantly crave for more rice to finish it off with. The best dish hands down at NAV Modern Thai.

Nav Modern Thai Crispy Pata

Thai Crispy Pata (P650). Crispy pata?, this was my first thought when I heard it. When the dish arrived it looked like a cross between a crispy pata and a pata tim with its dark tinted hue. There’s still a bit of crunch to the skin but the best part is the meat with its bold flavors that are a perfect match to more rice.

Nav Modern Thai Rib Eye Green Curry

Rib Eye Green Curry (P450). Thai green curry that’s been given an upgrade by using a better cut of meat. Tender and beef with good balance of flavors that will once again have you asking for rice. You must have sensed the theme of “rice” after almost every savory dish.

Nav Modern Thai Crab Fried Rice

Crab Fried Rice (P280). Instead of crab meat mixed in throughout the fried rice, the crab meat are made super crispy and placed on top of the fried rice. Squeeze a little lime then mix everything together to enjoy. A look at our previous dishes would have indicated a need for plain rice but this went surprisingly well with the Thai Crispy Pata.

Nav Modern Thai Fried Sticky Rice

Dessert was their Fried Sticky Rice (P150), fried coconut rice balls with mango and coconut milk on the side. A satisfying albeit filling end to our Thai spice journey at NAV.
