Niu by Vikings opened their 2nd branch at the new Podium Mall recently and I think it’s very much improved. The space is different, more enveloping than the elongated one in Aura. The first thing I noticed is the flooring by the buffet spread, the path is laid with non slippery tiles so no more slip and sliding. I suggest getting a table near the piano area, it’s got great views and is in the middle of everything.
The appetizer sections has a wide range of choices from cold Salmon mousse cones to hot Baked Oysters and a plethora of salads and small bites in between.
The sushi and sashimi station features a wide assortment of inventive maki rolls like the Mexican Roll and the London Roll. The chefs have creatively used cucumber instead of nori as the wrapper for their gunkan.
If love to have alcoholic drinks with your meal, you can have beer from tap, canned beer, sake and wine in a automatic dispensers. They even have cocktails they make as you order. The rest of their extensive drinks include my favorite agua frescas plus sodas, coffee and tea. *Not all alcoholic items are available for lunch.*
The Tempura station is always one of the busiest and Niu goes beyond the usual prawn tempura, with fish, squid and vegetables.
The most in demand station is their Carving Station with different cuts of beef like Angus rib eye and ribs, Stuffed Lechon Belly and Leg of Lamb.
If you like spicy then you should try out these Mala meatballs, Chinese meatballs cooked in mala spicy soup.
Here are some of the beautifully plated dishes that we tried on our visit to Niu Podium.
On the way to the carving station, you’ll definitely pass by the Shawarma stand. It’s an automated shawarma slicing machine, the first one in Asia.
The food adventure does not stop there, be sure to save a little room for dessert. I always go for their excellent Filipino kakanin area get a plate of my favorite kutchinta, while Irene goes for the puto bumbong and biko. They’ve also got lots of cakes and pastries as well as candies and pretty donuts.
