Nobu Manila is the signature restaurant of Nobu Hotel in City of Dreams Manila.Owned by renowned celebrity Chef Nobu Matsushita, and serves a fusion of Japanese and South American cuisines.
They offer a well curated but compact Sunday Brunch Buffet for P2,880++ that comes with non alcoholic beverages and P4,580++ with free flowing Moet & Chandon, and other alcoholic beverages. It is served from 11:30am to 3pm every week.
The dining area is decorated in light wood and golden shades. Multiple dining options from booths to round tables and semi private dining areas are available.
There are five main dining stations in the Sunday brunch spread but the one I loved most was the sushi and sashimi area. Chef Aki is in charge of this big station and he looks stern and serious but we later found out he had the playful showman side in him when he cut up a 50 kilo tuna. This was where my tummy was focused on with many a plate filled with different sashimi and sushi pieces.
I started with fresh oysters which they served with 4 sauces including a sweetish onion one that I quite enjoyed.
My favorite sashimi discovery was the belt fish/spada sashimi recommended by Chef Aki. Most of the diners gravitated to the usual salmon, tuna and grouper which were all very good too. The belt fish which he torched before slicing giving it a smoky flavor.
Uni lovers will enjoy the small boxes of uni chirashi. The lacquer boxes are the perfect size so you won’t get filled up.
Take a look at the perfectly made sushi, from assorted makis liek the soft shelled crab and my first taste of a ozisuhi (pressed sushi).
The next station is the yakitori station. They don’t cook it on a charcoal or electric griller, instead they use a hibachi table.
Next is a Lechon station with a variety of unusual and traditional sauces. I found a disconnect with this dish with regards to the whole spread.
If you want some hot savory food, they have a number of choices like the Okonomiyaki, a Japanese style tocino and a very good yakisoba. Staff will also pass around different small plates from the kitchen and brought directly to your table.
The other highlight of the brunch was the dessert spread. There are lots of choices for the sweet tooth, I wanted some fruits though but that’s a small matter.
You’ve seen your chocolate and white chocolate fountains but Nobu trots out their matcha fountain. Matcha lovers may want to avoid the temptation of jumping into it.
