Orchid’s Pancit Surprise

October 7, 2010 by Richard

I love to eat from different places, whether its at a fancy place or a hole-in-a-wall eatery. Sometimes, great food comes from the most unlikely of places. I’ve seen a big billboard for pancit canton in front of Orchid’s Drive Inn in Shaw.  We are continuously looking for great pancit canton and we think we’ve found it. Throwing  out our apprehensions about ordering food from a motel, of all places, we finally gave in and ordered it for delivery. The only other way you can get a taste of this is by checking in, they don’t have dine-in facilities.

We settled on the small bilao of Pancit Canton(P315) because the order taker said this was good for 2 to 4 people. After waiting more than 30 minutes, the food finally arrived on our doorstep. The deliveryman handed us one bilao and a container of what looked like thick soup. We asked what it was, and he informed us that it was extra sauce for the pancit.

As you can see a few pieces of fried chicken sit atop the big pile of noodles and vegetables, a curious topping for pancit. The noodles may seem dry at first, that’s when we realized the removed most of the sauce to avoid spillage during delivery. Adding the sauce made the noodles perfect, a burst of homey goodness in every strand of noodle.

We loved it so much, we have since ordered two more times and plan to do it a lot more in the future. Even The Club loved it when BetweenBites brought it during our potluck/dice game last Sunday
