Our quests to eat at as many restaurants as we could during our trip to Bacolod led us to Pepe’s Restaurant and Bar upon a recommendation from Carlos’ friend. We went there lunch time around 1:30 pm so there was no party crowd. Most people were having a late lunch but I imagine it would be much much noisier during night time.
Salpicao (P169). We were surprised at the generous serving size. Carlos chose garlic rice as the siding for this one. I love the sauce in this one, really garlicky and had a nice beef taste, too bad the beef was quite tough.
Grilled Spareribs (P149). I choose rice pilaf as a siding, and it was served nicely with some cubed mangoes on top.The meat cut did not look like your typical spareribs, it looked more like a giant porkchop. This was drizzled with orange inasal oil all around. The meat was tender and charred slightly giving it a lot of smoky flavor and matched the rice pilaf well. This was a winner for me and wish we had something like this here.
I recommend giving this place a try to get a taste of the grilled spareribs, be sure to get the rice pilaf with it. The prices were very reasonable especially because of the generous serving sizes. If you would like to avoid the party crowd, a lunch time visit would be perfect like us.
