Pizza Express is introducing some of international favorites from Pizza Express China, Singapore and Indonesia that is available until June 30, 2019 only. The Philippines will get their own signature pizza very soon, so that’s pretty exciting also.
Baked Dough Balls (P195). We have a set of appetizers at Pizza Express that we always order and this is one of them. These little dough balls are served with garlic butter, pesto Genovese and pesto Rosso. Just a little warning, these suckers are so addicting that you’ll have to be careful of stuffing yourself silly. I honestly can’t decided which of the three dips/butter I like to I use them all.
Truffled Parmesan and Mushroom Dip (P285). Our dining companions swear by this appetizer, we’ve never been fans of truffle so don’t pay much attention to items with it. Baked mushrooms and parmesan dip with truffle paste and served with 6 dough balls. Scoop some of the creamy spread/dip on top of the dough balls and enjoy. These were really good and I suggest ordering more dough balls as the 6 won’t be enough at all.
Mozzarella Tomato Salad (P275). This is my other default appetizer order, a mix of fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and pesto Genovese. I love the interplay of textures and flavors, with creamy soft mozzarella, crisp tomatoes and the nutty pesto mixed altogether.
PIZZA Time! Pizza Express serves 2 kinds of pizza, the Romana and the Classic. The Romana is 13″ with a thin, crispy crust and have a base of tomato sauce and mozzarella. The Classic is a traditional Neapolitan 10″ base with tomato sauce and mozzarella.
Chili Crab Romana (P590). This pizza has a sweet chili sauce, crab meat and mantou croutons on a Romana base. Flavors were ok but I found it too spicy for my tastes so only order this one if you like spicy food.
Chicken Satay Romana (P495). This pizza has bbq chicken, sweet-savory peanut sauce and pickled vegetables. Looks wise this was the plainest but more than makes up for it with flavor. I love that you can readily taste satay like enjoying it in a hawker center but executed on top of a crisp pizza.
Laksa Romana Pizza (P650). Singaporean laksa with shrimp, mussels, squid and cilantro. This is a bit spicy too but not as much as the chili crab, I would have wanted a stronger coconut flavor.
Peking Duck Pizza (P590). House roasted Peking duck with hoisin sauce sliced cucumber and leeks. The duck was smoky and tasty with the cucumbers giving a nice crunch, I jsut found it weird when I tasted a bit of spiciness, the piece of red pepper might have been a good clue.
Rendang Classic (P590). Braised beef with spices, chili and coconut milk on a classic base. This is the only one I did not like among the 5 international favorites. This was also spicy and the softer classic base felt a bit soggy for me.
Hurry and try these limited variants available until June 30, 2019 only. I can wait for them to add a special Philippine pizza as well as the opening of their branch in SM Megamall.
