Karnitas Korner is a hole in the wall restaurant surrounded by residential spaces in the inner roads of Kapitolyo. When I first heard the name, I thought it was a Mexican restaurant so I was expecting a whole slew of tacos and burritos. I would never have seen this restaurant if they had not invited me to check them out.
There’s a beautiful mural by the outdoor seating area that will have anime fans thinking it was inspired by Naruto. A long table that can seat 12 is a great place to unwind at night. Indoor seating can accommodate 20 people.
When I entered I found out that Karnitas Korner specializes in porchetta, the Italian style rolled pork belly with herbs. They do have a few Mexican style dishes so I was still slightly right but no carnitas in sight.
We started off the meal with some Iced Green Tea with Lychee (P50). A refreshing drink paired with addicting korniks from Ilocos.
Here are my favorite dishes at Karnitas Korner.
Porchetta Nachos (P135). Nachos with cheese sauce, mango salsa, sliced jalapenos, and porchetta bits.
Porchetta Tacos (P185). Roasted corn slaw, sweet chili sauce, porchetta and pork rinds. A crunchy, sweet and meaty taco that makes more use of their house made porchetta.
Porchetta Rice (P185). This is Karitas Korner’s signature dish, a large serving on rice (1 and 1/2 cups) with roasted corn slaw, large piece of porchetta, salsa verde drizzle and a beautiful poached egg on top. They encourage you to mix everything together to get the flavor to meld together. My only quip is that they should slice the porchetta so it would be much easier to get every component in each spoonful.
If you want something more crusty rather than rice, their signature dish is also available as a sandwich. The Porchetta Sandwich (P185) has layers of meat, fat and crispy skin with a big smear of salsa verde in between. A good grab and go snack that’s very filling too.
Karitas Korner is a nice addition in the Kapitolyo restaurant area, serving delicious and great value food. The Porchetta rice and sandwich are two dishes you can come back for again and again and not be afraid to bust your budget.
