22 Prime in Discovery Suites Ortigas has been known as a go to place to have steak ever since it opened. Located beside it is the Serendipity Lounge where one goes to for music, drinks and relaxation. I’ve been to 22 Prime a few times already but have never experienced Serendipity Lounge.
We started our night with drinks and new bar chow items at Serendipity Lounge.
- Salmon Ceviche
- Ceviche de Pargo
- Ceviche de Tanigue
The have 3 new ceviche dishes, all fresh and served with chips on the side. My favorite among the three was the Salmon Ceviche (P350) with bursts of sweet flavor from the ikura/salmon eggs. Other options are the Ceviche de Pargo (P265) and the Ceviche de Tanigue (P295).
- Oysters Rockefeller
- Baked Oysters
- Broiled Osyters
The next to arrive was the impressive Oyster Tower (P1,200). Half a person in height with three layers of 6 oysters prepared in unique ways with their accompanying sauces. Go for the classic Oysters Rockefeller, the cheesy Baked Oyster or the crunch of the Broiled Oysters.
We moved on to the main dining area of 22 Prime after the round of drinks and pairings while enjoying the musical entertainment by Noli Aurillo. There was also a special performance that night by Stephen Lu, former front man of The Rizal Underground.
We sampled dishes on 22 Prime’s menu that may have been overlooked by most diners looking for their steak fix starting with the Lobster Bisque (P395). A common steak house soup, this version had all the umami flavors of the lobster but not too overpoweringly salty.
Steak may not be the main focus of our dinner but meat is still present in great form with the Steak Knife Sandwich (P695). A large open faced sandwich with char grilled sliced steak, sweet onion, mushrooms and bleu cheese crumble and served with thick cut fries on the side. This is perfect for a lighter but still meaty meal for both a quick lunch or leisurely dinner.
Miso Glazed Black Cod (P750). The chefs at 22 Prime have created their take on the popular dish from Nobu restaurant. The impeccably cooked piece of black cod sits on a bed of shitake mushrooms, bok choy, red mountain rice and cauliflower puree. The fish is juicy and tender and has a nice crusty surface that is basted with the sweet and savory miso and soy glaze. This is fish done right, even people who are averse to it will definitely enjoy.
Dessert was a piece of Chocolate Marquise (P375) with a scoop of Macadamia Supreme Ice Cream (P220). The most interesting thing on the plate for me was the pistachio with a long caramel tail placed on top of the marquise. A very rich and chocolatey dessert that will delight a lot of people but not me, I enjoyed the nutty macadamia ice cream a lot more.
There’s more than just steaks at 22 Prime so experiment with your choices on your next visit. The Serendipity Lounge is also very cozy with good food and drinks as well as a killer view of the Ortigas skyline.
