After having lunch in Wrong Ramen last Monday, I took the opportunity of both killing time and maximizing our parking by checking out Starbucks Reserve. The Starbucks logo is still in front of the store, the only indication is logo and name on the handles of the glass door.
Once you enter, you’ll see a different set of merchandise like this pour over brewer and mug, cups with the Starbucks Reserve logo and special packs of coffee beans.
I headed towards the coffee bar area thinking this was where I was supposed to order. I was informed that this was where they made the coffee but I had to order at the counter in front (too excited).
The look is also a little different than the regular Starbucks branch with am area where they do the pour over extraction. They also indicate the resident Coffee Master of The Day (barista), in my case it was Hannah. She was quite cheerful and helpful, guiding me on what beans they have available and what I might like. They had Mexico, Zambia, Sumatra Blue Batak. I ended up choosing a cup of Mexico (P140/tall) while Irene skipped since the Kona she had wanted was not available anymore.
They got some food options similar to the regular Starbucks stores but they have scones and muffins that are only carried in Starbucks Reserve stores. Since we just had a filling lunch, I skipped the food.
If I were alone, I’d probably sit her and watch as they prepare my coffee and chat with the coffee master.
Here’s my cup of Mexico being prepared. It will take a while versus since they have to do it per cup.
Time to have my caffeine, Hannah suggested I use brown sugar to accentuate the inherent brown sugar flavors. The coffee sleeve has a sticker of your choice of coffee bean which I felt was a nice touch. The Mexico had nice body and it got better as it cooled down a bit. I think I’ll try the Zambia next time around.
Irene and I were seated in the uncomfortable high bar stool area because we missed this cozy area when we entered the store.
I had actually though that a Starbucks Reserve store only serves their special beans and uses the pour over methods. They also serve the regular Starbucks menu which all of the customers in the store were consuming. I was the only one having a cup of Starbucks Reserve pour over.

oh, I thought of the same thing too that it would be just serving special coffee beans thru different methods of manual brewing. Maybe most of their earlier customers asked for the regular menu that’s why they included it in their menu.
it seems the that’s really the format of Reserve stores and the only other method of brewing they serve is the pour over.
