I had previously tried Sunrise Buckets at a bazaar in Rockwell, did not like it that much but probably because I did not know what to order and the fact that we took it home might have also contributed to it. So when I passed by Ortigas Ave., and saw a Sunrise Buckets store, I wanted to give it one more chance.
The Sunrise Buckets store is surfer themed with surf boards and other knickknacks contributing to the ambiance and tempting me to say ” Hey Dude” as surfers are wont to do.
Ordering is a breeze, you just go up to the counter and look at their big menu board, they are willing and able to give you the lowdown on their specialties and bestsellers.
Smokin’ BBQ Wings (P99/3 pieces). Each order is served in a pail with the customers name. Although the wings were tasty they were quite small, about as big as the ones form Flaming Wings, albeit much more expensive.
Boneless Buffalo Wings – Mild (P210). Chicken Wings with the bones, the best of both worlds, in a tangy, slightly spicy sauce very close to the one we had at Bugsy’s. The chicken was very crispy and well coated in the buffalo wings sauce. Its slightly more expensive than Bugsy’s but you avoid the cigarette smoke smell of the place.
Chilli Con Carne (P125). A dish order very often since its never cooked at home.Minced beef mixed with beans and topped with cheese. I felt this dish was too compact and a little dry, more sauce would have made the overall dish better.Maybe they could improve on the consistency of the dish since the taste was already good.
BBQ Fries (P65) Long and crispy french fries tossed in bbq powder, good but I still favor the ones from Potato Corner. The serving size is quite generous in addition to the nice presentation.
Sunrise Iced Tea (P65). Sunrise Buckets own brew mixture, I could taste some citrus hints, maybe Sunquick orange juice but not too sure.
As we were finishing up dinner, the owners sent over samples of their Jalapeño Chicken Wings which they would be introducing the next day. These were by far the best tasting of all the wings I had that night. It had just the right amount of spiciness but it also had a sweetish taste for balance.
Their take out packs are very nice also.
Overall, I like the experience at Sunrise Buckets. The interior is very cozy and its a good place to hang out, eat and chat away with friends. I just wish they could have bigger chicken wings to give more value for money. So go and have a try and tell me about what you think of their wings.
