Tales Goes Cebu : Vanille Café and Patisserie

December 6, 2010 by Richard

While walking around Ayala Center Cebu, we chanced upon Vanille Café selling cookies outside their store. We also went inside and looked at the mouthwatering cake displays. We bought a couple of packs of cookies and promised we would come back with Lauren the next day.

We went back the next day but unfortunately the mall was closed in observance of All Saints Day. We would not be deterred as we made it a point to have our last lunch there before going to the airport.

So the three of us (me, Irene and Lauren) got to the store around 11:30am. We had our choice of tables since we were the only clients at that time. Vanille Café’s interiors are very cool and relaxing with large glass windows all around bringing in lots of subdued light. The purple chairs compliment the mint green walls wonderfully.

We quickly picked out our lunch meals. My order was Stuffed Porkloin with Rosemary Pineapple Jus(P225). The porkloin was tender and the ham and mushroom stuffing was flavorful but I really liked the rosemary pineapple sauce on the side. I love citrus fruits added to my food, be it oranges, lemons, or pineapples.

Croque Monsieur (P169). Essentially a french toast sandwich with ham and cheese. Irene said it was ok but nothing special.

Fish Fillet Frites with Asian Mango Salsa (P180) was Lauren’s order. Initially she did not want to eat it since the fish fillets strips had scallions mixed into the batter. She has this thing about the scallions and other green stuff in her food, she does not want them, period. Irene had to dissect some of the scallions from the batter and Lauren finally ate them. I tasted this also, and I liked the crunchiness of the fish fillets. The mango salsa’s tanginess lessened the fried food taste of the fish strips.

On to the main event, dessert. Lauren had been quite anxious to get to dessert after seeing all the beautiful cakes on display. She settled on Chocolate Fondant, warmed chocolate cake with soft center topped with vanilla ice cream and tablea (local chocolate) sauce. We asked them to separate the tablea sauce since Lauren does not like it. She quickly polished the whole thing off so I guess that’s a sign that it was good.

Irene and I shared a Brownie Cheesecake (P105), dense cheesecake with brownies bites with chocolate ganache. This was very good and not sweet but we both felt it was lack cheecake as there was too much brownie bites in it.

For a relaxing lunch and heavenly desserts in Cebu, give Vanille Café a try.
