Teppanyaki House – Hole in the Wall Katipunan Find

January 21, 2019 by Richard

We recently got to try out a hole in the wall teppanyaki restaurant in Katipunan called Teppanyaki House. They serve student express lunches at P158 which come with your choice of main (chicken, beef, fish or seafood), teppanyaki vegetables and rice. Dinner with cooking show is priced at P498 for 8 courses and is by reservation. It’s not the easiest place to find because there was still no signage outside the building save for a small standee that we missed because it was night time.

1st course is Kani Salad, fresh shredded cabbage with carrots, crab meat and drizzled with Japanese mayo.

Stir fried cabbage, bean sprouts and carrots

2nd course is Yasai Itame, teppanyaki of mixed vegetables (cabbage, carrots and bean sprouts).

3rd course is Miso Soup.

Japanese pancake with leeks and mayo

4th course is Okonomiyaki. Not good at all especially compared with all the new Okonomiyaki specialists that opened recently. I suggested for them to replace this with a different appetizer.

Teppanyaki beef slices and egg

5th course was Yakimeshi, Japanese mixed fried rice with egg and beef.

Stir fried noodles with vegetables

6th course is Yakisoba, stir fried noodles in teriyaki sauce.

Teppanyaki cooked beef tenderloin

Teppanyaki cooked Shrimp, Squid and Kani

For the entree, you have a choice of Beef Tenderloin, Chicken, Tuna Steak or Mixed Seafood. I got beef tenderloin while Irene had the mixed seafood. Both of our picks were pretty good and the serving size was more than we expected.

Vanilla ice cream with Matcha syrup

Dessert is Sayonara dessert, vanilla ice cream with matcha sauce.

Teppanyaki House is a fun dining experience with pretty good food at a very affordable price. Don’t expect top quality ingredients but you’ll surely be entertained like we did by Chef Bong, their guest chef for the night. The owners used to work in cruise lines so they have a long line of friends who are helping them out by being guest chefs for their dinner service.
