Toby’s Estate launches Seasonal Menu

August 2, 2017 by Richard

Toby’s Estate has been one of my go to coffee shops ever since I tried it in their first branch in Makati. I also got a chance to experience my first cupping session with the founder, Toby Smith. I always go there for coffee but food wise, I’ve only had the pastries. They’ve got a good amount of food but these are only available in selected branches.

I recently got to try their new seasonal menu, 4 new dishes to supplement their current line up to give people something different. The branch I visited was the Viridian in Greenhills branch, one I had never visited before. For me, this looks the best among all the one I’ve visited. Beautiful design with high ceilings and lots of natural light.

Salami and Cheese Croissant (P290). Butter croissant with pepper salami, manchego cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and alfalfa sprouts. Perfect pick for a lighter meal or a quick grab and go.

Corned Beef and Hash (P350). My favorite from the seasonal menu, corned beef hash with potato roesti and two sunny side eggs. The corned beef is on the spicy side so consider yourself warned in case you can’t take spice.

Linguine Puttanesca (P350). A classic pasta dish with pomodorro sauce, capers, anchovies, olives tossed in linguine pasta.

Braised Chicken in Wine (P350). Toby’s Estate’s version of coq au vin. Red wine braised chicken with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The chicken is very tender with lots of absorbed flavor from the the braising and the mashed potatoes served as good foil for the sauce.

We went with cold coffee to pair with the savory food. We had the Iced Flat White (P140) and Iced Mocha (P160), both we have never tried before since we go for the hot coffee, both excellent and strong.

After the meal I had a Flat White (P150) but made with their new Salcedo blend instead of their signature Wooloomooloo blend. I found the salcedo to be too light and the fruitier flavors drowned out by the milk unlike the stronger Wooloomooloo which is balanced out by the milk. The Salcedo would be better with the non milk options like a Cortado or a Gibraltar.

We also discovered their Goji Melon Iced Fruit Tea (P140). If you want something cold and refreshing, this is it.

The seasonal menu will be available at the following branches only – V Corporate center, Senta Condominium, Shangri-la at the Fort, Cyberscape Beta, Viridian and Whitespace Manila.
