Tomahawk Chops and Grill is a small restaurant in the budding foodie scene of Kapitolyo that specializes in cowboy food. We live nearby so Kapitolyo is usually our default place to eat when we’re in a hurry and looking for someplace quick. There’s been a whole lot of new restaurants popping up like mushrooms that I can’t seem to keep up. Tomahawk Chop is located farther down along East Capitol Drive, past the greater concentration of restaurants. It is located beside Kool Kids Ice Cream and across Gostoso Piri Piri.
We saw this place when we visited Gostoso and noted that we should go back and try. One time we tried to go but the place was closed (boo). Fast forward to another lunch date and looking for something new and I suddenly remembered about Tomahawk so we drove over there hoping they were open.
Yee-haw, we were lucky this time around and not only found a parking space but a table inside. The place looked quite small upon entry with one wall laden with bricks and the other is what I guess is a map of Texas. The place is actually larger than it looks as there is a big seating area once you go to the end and turn right.
We were given two menu, one was their regular menu and the other was their special lunch menu promo, available only on weekdays. The lunch promo meals came with coleslaw, plain rice and a glass of iced tea. Irene and I each ordered one to try out Tomahawk.
Irene had the Grilled Tomahawk Chop (P199). One inch thick, bone in pork chop served basted with their special bbq sauce. Nice charring on the meat with a good smoky aroma and flavor. The bbq sauce was somewhere between what we locally see and a US style bbq sauce.
I got the Fried Tomahawk Chop (P199). The same 1 inch bone in pork chop but this time around breaded and deep fried and served with a dollop of their bbq sauce. This reminded me of the pork chops I had in college in Ateneo albiet at a way bigger size. It being fried made the dish a bit on the dry side, wish I could have requested for more bbq sauce.
We visited Tomahawk again last week with Irene ordering the same thing while I got the Rosemary Chicken (P159). Chicken breast, grilled and drizzled with their cream sauce over rice. The last item on their lunch promo menu is the Country Fried chicken, which I have yet to try.
Tomahawk Chops and Grill is a good and inexpensive restaurant in Kapitolyo. They serve good familiar food at very reasonable prices. The lunch promo is especially good so make sure to take this chance to try them out, you never know when they’ll stop offering it.
