Irene and I have never set foot inside a Vikings Luxury Buffet Restaurant until a few weeks ago at their SM Megamall Fashion Hall, their newest and most exciting branch. Irene and I don’t usually eat in buffet since we don’t eat that much and are more often than not overwhelmed by the multitude of choices. We finally got a chance to visit when they invited a number of us to try out their lunch buffet.
We got to SM Megamall a little before 11 and was surprised to find a throng of people outside. It seems people queue up and get a number as soon as the mall opens at 10am so they can get in as soon as Vikings opens at 11am. Guests are escorted according to their number once the doors open in an orderly way.
I love the plashes of art throughout the restaurant like this colorful painting hung on a patterned wall.
We were seated by the big windows overlooking EDSA. You can observe and make fun of the traffic situation as you wolf down plate after plate of food.
I of course started with the Japanese side of things, with a plate full of different makis, sushi and sashimi. The quality was not the best but it was pretty good for a buffet.
I was surprised at the selection of tapas placed in earthenware containers as well as little pieces of appetizers. The cheese selection is pretty slim.
You can have some of their fresh pastas (made in house), pizzas and bread for your carbo needs. If you like grilled food then you’ll enjoy the selection of meats and seafood available for grilling or your choice of cooking method.
Underneath one of the stations, I spied these playful kiddie plates, utensils and mugs perfect for the small kids and babies to enjoy their food with.
Tonkatsu fanatics like my daughter would enjoy the freshly fried tonkatsu and also tempura.
Get your meats from the carving station stations with slabs of beef.
They also have a make your own hot pot station. Once you’ve chosen your ingredients, they will add it to a personal sized pot with burner and bring it over to your table. This one can be shared by two people like what Irene and I did.
One station I could not resist was the Mongolian Barbecue, I had mine a bit on the sweet and spicy side.
Looking for the drinks, Vikings has got your covered whether you want to have a brewskie or more tame drinks, they have something just right for you. Tea, coffee, sodas, and a wide array of different juices. You can even have the fresh fruits on display made into shakes if you so desire.
My favorite was this Minty Lemon Lime drink that was refreshing and citrusy, a great palate cleanser.
Vikings has a dazzling amount of desserts from little bite sized pastries, fruits, chocolate fountains and other sweet endings.
You can make your own halo halo concoctions complete with super smooth shaved ice. This is the first Vikings branch that has an ice machine like this.
The cutest machine award goes to this playful looking machine which serves milk flavored snow ice. If you like frozen yogurt like Lauren, you’ll go swirl happy making your own and finishing it off with a multitude of toppings.
While we were winding down our lunch, we were given these high tech feedback devices. Forget the tired old paper and pencil, ticking and writing down your comments and suggestions.
From what I’ve been told by friends, Vikings Luxury Buffet in SM Megamall is the nicest among all their branches. This means that they strive to improve as the open store after store with better design and equipment to make the dining experience even better. After my first time at Vikings, I can now understand why people flock here to get their fill, the buffet is a great deal especially during weekday lunch when the price is only P688+5% service charge. I can’t wait to bring Lauren here, I’m 100% sure she’ll enjoy the drinks and dessert station.

I love Vikings! This post excites me more for my lunch there on Wednesday :)
Enjoy your Vikings adventure.
this place looks like it has better selections than the ones in marikina with the same price! i like the way they places their temakis on a wooden holder :)
That’s what my friends who have been to Marikina were saying. I could not confirm though since this is the first time I’ve ever set foot inside a Vikings restaurant.
