Wishbone in Kapitolyo

September 21, 2015 by Richard

*This restaurant is now closed*

I love that I live so near the Kapitolyo restaurant scene, there’s always something new popping up. Irene and I recently tried Wishbone, located beside Tomahawk Chops and Grill and across Gostoso. Wishbone serves American cuisine infused with Asian, Filipino and South American flavors. Their menu is made up of wings, burgers and cubanos.

Wishbone Kapitolyo

Parking is a bit of a challenge with only one space in front of Wishbone. The space is pretty small, about 20 seats by my estimate, a mix of bar chairs, couches and wooden stools. Decor is leaning towards the industrial look with lots of wooden elements.

We got two orders of wings and a cubano sandwich to share between us.

Wishbone Kapitolyo Salted Egg Wings

The first choice for wings was the Salted Egg wings (P199/half dozen). If you were expecting the yellow tinge, you’d be in for a surprise. The salted egg wings looked more like white chocolate wings with its thick white sauce. The 6 pieces are 3 pieces of large wings served as wing and pop parts. Irene and I found that texture of the sauce too gritty and lacking in salted egg flavor.

Wishbone Kapitolyo Srirachamansi Wings

Our 2nd wings choice was the Srirachamansi (P209/ half dozen). There a fair bit of heat from the sriracha sauce but the flavors of the calamansi is still evident. The combination of spicy and citrus works really well for me but it was a little too spicy for Irene already.

Wishbone Kapitolyo Classic Cubano

We skipped the rice and instead ordered a Classic Cubano (P239), served with homemade potato chips. If you’ve watched the movie Chef then you’d be familiar with a cubano sandwich. A cubano is a pressed sandwich with roast pork, ham, cheese and pickles. The meat fillings was tasty but parts of the bread crumbled.

Wishbone is a good addition to Kapitolyo hood, I’d readily go back and try more of their offerings including the Thai Curry wings.
