Xin Tian Di is the premier Chinese restaurant of Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in the heart of the Ortigas CBD. A group of us tried their Lauriat Set Menu 1 (P34,688++), which serves 10-12 people. We started off our meal with a few of their dimsum specialties like siomai, har gao and steamed char siu bao. If you want to try more of their dimsum dishes, I suggest trying their Dim Sum Unlimited Lunch Buffet that has 55 different choices.
The first dish was the Suckling Pig combination, a large plate with roast duck, asado, chicken, beef kenchi, pork knuckle, jellyfish and century egg. The suckling pig skin were crispy with a thin layer of fat while the meat pieces were flavorful to the bone.
Hot Prawn Salad with Fruit Cocktail. My favorite dish of the lunch, the prawns were exceptional, crisp prawn coated in a paper thin batter then mixed with slightly sweet mayo. They’ve thoughtfully separated the prawns and the fruit cocktail so there’s no digging around for the last magical piece.
Seafood with Shredded Abalone and Bamboo Fungus Soup “Yinyang style”. Visually appealing but once they start serving, they’ll mix it all up.
Wok Fried Scallop and Diced Beef Tenderloin with Goose Liver in Black Pepper Sauce. The scallops were plump and fresh, cooked just right while the beef tenderloin cubes are tender and flavorful. My only problem with this plate was the goose liver, I found the batter too thick which masked any flavor and all you get is the soft texture in the middle. I think they would have been better off cooking it like the beef tenderloin and served it on the side.
Stewed Abalone, Sea Cucumber and Pork Tendon with Black Mushroom in Abalone Sauce.
Steamed Silver Cod and Wild Mushroom in Black Bean Sauce. Light and silky meat without the hassles of deboning.
Fried Stone Crab with Salt and Pepper. Time to get your hands out to fully enjoy this tasty dish.
Braised Home Style Stuffed Chicken in Glutinous Rice. Carb heavy dishes like rice and noodle are traditionally served at the end of lauriats in case guests are not full from the previous dishes. Xin Tian Di puts out a classic stuffed chicken but using real glutinous rice. Stir Fried Misua Noddles with Shimeji Mushroom and Veal in XO Sauce is served together with the stuffed chicken so you won’t be standing up from the table hungry.
Dessert was a unique Aloe Vera Jelly with White Fungus and Coconut Milk. The jelly cubes were refreshing and had the perfect bite, which contrasted with the creamy coconut milk.
A plate of freshly cooked Masachi is the 2nd dessert, chewy glutinous rice balls covered in chopped peanuts.
