Yayoi Japanese Teishoku Restaurant opens it’s first Philippine store at the 3rd floor of SM Megamall. Teishoku is a Japanese dining concept that is composed of a main dish, rice, soup, pickles and two side dishes. There are over 300 Yayoi restaurants in Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Australia.
First thing you’ll notice is the iPad ordering system they have in each table. It’s not really needed since you can also place your order with the staff. A nice gimmick but could be useful if the place is full and staff is swamped.
My favorite was the Hitsumabushi (P650). This is a Nagoya style grilled eel dish on top of rice with a side of dashi broth. There’s 3 ways to eat this, as is, with the dashi broth and with condiments. Each one imparts a different taste and texture and are all equally enjoyable so order this and try all three ways to find out.
If you want a little bit of this and that, get the Mix Toji Teishoku (P425). A piece of breaded pork loin (tonkatsu), ebi fry and sukiyaki beef cooked in special sauce and egg.
The Sukiyaki Teishoku should entice all lovers of this classic Japanese dish. A bit different that usual as this is served with additional udon noodles for a more filling dish.
There’s lots of other choices from fish to meat to poultry and all should be familiar to regular Japanese restaurant diners.
